Weekly Shtuff 9-21-2012

I’m waiting to get A Cabin in the Woods from Netflix. Seems like most of the horror films of the last year or so have been stale rehashes of The Exorcist and The Entity and the like. I’m curious to see if Cabin lives up to,its positive press.

In fact, I’ve been needing a good horror fix from something besides video games for some time now and haven’t found it.King’s sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, won’t be out until next year; The Walking Dead doesn’t return on TV until end of October, and I’ve grown pretty bored with the comic; 666 Park Avenue doesn’t look all that promising; and politics don’t count.

Next Wednesday I’ll be taking a look at the artists of Dead Space. I’m trying to alternate between older and newer artists.

Vote at Top Web Comics, please. Have a good weekend.

Cabin in The Woods is a good film, in my opinion. I don’t know if you can exactly call it horror, for what it is, it’s very well done. Without giving too much away, it’s like a combination of Evil Dead, Scream, Beetlejuice, and Cube.

Just giving you a fair-warning…Cabin in the Woods is not a TRUE horror film, according to genre. It is much more of an homage paying mash-up than a scary, nightmare horror flick. If you are willing to put up with some cheesy comedy to get to the good stuff, then you may enjoy it. If you’ve seen the movie Rango (animated Pixar flick), Cabin in the Woods is to horror what Rango is to western. Quite enjoyable and nostalgic, but still a bit different from its predecessors.
