Random Update 7/21/2011
Finishing the inks on pg. 6, and still polishing the script. Right now the script runs to 60 comic pages (about 80 typed pages) so it’s probably trimmable. But I’m really happy with it thus far.
Reading Low Life by Luc Sante, about the underside of NYC around the turn of the century. Love it. Also enjoying the trade paperback collection of Fighting American and a few dime novels thrown in for variety. The break from horror has been good, but I will return to it soon to build up review posts for the September relaunch.
I gather no one was very taken by The Monk, since I quit putting chapters up several weeks ago and have never heard a peep from anyone. I will post the remainder of the novel in one long post soon, just so it is complete, but I guess early horror is not appealing. Too bad. If I had time, I’d like to do illustrations for some of the books….but who has time.
Hope everyone is well.

I’ve been reading your posts of The Monk faithfully, and they’re fascinating! (I haven’t complained about the halting of your posting of them because I figured you were busy or on vacation or whatever. Beggars can’t be choosers, and I always find it weird for readers of a free online comic or blog to make demands of the comic/blog owner.) In any case, I look forward to reading the rest!

I did notice The Halting of The Monk (for what that is worth); but assumed you were busy, & besides, one posts too much as is.
At least you achieved getting to
‘In Denmark, say you?’ mumbled an old Nun; ‘Are not the People all Blacks in Denmark?’
‘By no means, reverend Lady; They are of a delicate pea-green with flame-coloured hair and whiskers.’
‘Mother of God! Pea-green?’ exclaimed Sister Helena; ‘Oh! ’tis impossible!’
‘Impossible?’ said the Porteress with a look of contempt and exultation: ‘Not at all: When I was a young Woman, I remember seeing several of them myself.’
-a personal favourite (no rapy bits)

I liked it, but the time investment is huge( compared to a web comic) — the reward is higher too, but I am time constrained, and therefore was less dismayed when it switched to a slower posting schedule. ( or as is apparent now ceased publication for a while)

Well, The Monk was one of the suggestions at my last book club meeting, so if it had been picked then I would have missed not getting the rest, but in the end it got beaten by another book….

But oh to have a book club where such a suggestion could even be made!

I would love to read The Monk in hardcopy, I really abhor on-screen reading of material of any substantial length…
I think it is a great idea that you recommend books and videos to us, in addition to the much loved webcomic

Likewise, I have been quite enjoying the Monk, but assumed it’s updates had been curtailed due to your writing schedule. If suffering until the next chapter was posted meant your wonderful creation moved forward more smoothly, I was more than willing to wait. I am, however, very pleased that you are going to continue posting it!
