Weekly Shtuff
Got this one up by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin, and have to take next week off for Christmas, so the following week I will put up the LAST TWO PAGES, one on Thursday, one on Friday. A grand way to bring 2009 to a close and start 2010 off with a bang.
FYI, there’s a great DVD deal at Wal-Mart for any Hitchock fans out there: 18 of his British films in one package for $5.00. Usually collections like these are crap quality, but for five bucks, I couldn’t resist. I haven’t watched them all yet, of course, but I made a spot check of the lot and the quality is surprisingly good on all the films, silents and sound alike. The picture is clear and the sound is crisp. The worst print of the bunch is The Lodger, which I’ve never seen a good print of anyway, but this is no worse than most.
The films aren’t perfect; there’s some clipping of the titles on the left side on a few of the prints, but only marginally. The pictures range from 1927 (The Lodger) to 1939 (Jamaica Inn) and includes all his best pictures from this era: The Thirty Nine Steps, Secret Agent, The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Lady Vanishes, Blackmail and so on, plus the harder to find silents. The only noticeable exception is Murder. And to top it all off, there are also two episodes of the Alfred Hitchcock show. plus an hour’s worth of trailers from his later pics, like Foreign Correspondent, I Confess, Strangers on a Train, etc.. It’s a heckuva deal, for yourself or as a stocking stuffer.
Right after the first of the year I’ll be starting my How to Make A Web Comic series of blogs to tide people over until Book 4 begins. Because of work, I want to have a good backlog of pages ready to go before I relaunch, so I can keep up the steady stream of weekly posts.
Oh yeah, we made it to 58 on Top Web Comics, but we’ve slipped a bit. Every vote counts, every day.
Have a good weekend.

Two things:
1) I love Lovecraft is Missing! I’m a fan of comics and graphic novels, and your art is terrific, and
2) You’re right about the Hitchcock DVD collection. The quality is surprisingly good for such a cheap package. I felt the same way you did before purchasing it (really, what do you expect for $5), but I have no regrets.
Have a wonderful Christmas, and a great 2010!
